And while you might not agree with Vin Diesel’s prediction, it’s easy to see why he’s so impassioned with Furious 7. Not only has the franchise surprisingly grown and evolved over its last few instalments into one of the most satisfying action series of recent years, but the production of Furious 7 will always be linked to the death of its star, Paul Walker. The 40-year-old actor died in a car-crash in November 2013 while production on the movie was on-going.
Vin Diesel insists that the emotional dynamic that Walker’s passing unfortunately introduced to Furious 7 means that it’s more "powerful" than its predecessors. And while the film had already managed to one-up the "action sequences" and had introduced a fresh, new "interesting dynamic to the world," it will now also shock viewers with just how moving and touching it is too.
But don’t just take Vin Diesel’s word for it. During his chat with Variety, the star insisted that the head of Universal Pictures, Ron Meyer, had previously told him that if there had been no number attached to either Fast Five or Fast & Furious 6 then they would have been Best Picture contenders. Diesel emphatically concluded, "And when people see Furious 7, they are going to agree."
